Srinivas (Srini) Sampalli, Ph.D.

Dr. Srini Sampalli is a Professor and 3M National Teaching Fellow in the Faculty of Computer Science, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, and brings with him more than 20 years of teaching and research experience. His interests are in the areas of cyber security, reliability and applications of emerging wireless technologies. He has successfully led industry-driven research and development projects on protocol vulnerabilities, security best practices, design of intrusion detection and prevention systems, and applications of RFID systems and NFC-enabled smartphones. His projects have been funded by NSERC, Industry Canada, and the NRC. Dr. Sampalli has collaborated/ is collaborating with a number of industries, local IT companies, and research organizations. They include Industry Canada, Boeing, Solution Inc., Timeless Medical Systems,, eOLIO, ExactDeposit, FANfit, HealthQR Inc., Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Citrus Mobile Solutions, Home Safe Living, Progeny Software, and ViTRAK Systems. He is also the co-founder of a startup company, Wi4Tech Inc., that was born out of Sampalli’s lab, MYTech Lab ("Emerging Wireless Technologies Lab) in the Faculty of Computer Science. He is also on the Board of Advisors for EyeRead (a subsidiary of and a Technical Advisor for ExactDeposit Inc.

Since September 2016, he holds the position of Vice President (Canada), of the International Federation of National Teaching Fellows (IFNTF). The federation is a non-profit organization that emanated from 3M National Teaching Fellows' and similar award-winning teachers' organizations from around the world for the advancement of teaching and learning. Dr. Sampalli holds a B.Eng. degree from Bangalore University and a Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore, India. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada before taking on a faculty position at Dalhousie University.

Dr. Vijayan Sugumaran


Prof. Vijayan Sugumaran is a Distinguished University Professor of Management Information Systems and Chair of the Decision and Information Sciences department at Oakland University. I am also Co-Director of the Center for Data Science and Big Data Analytics at Oakland University. I received my Ph.D. in Information Technology from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, USA. Over the years I have taught courses at the Graduate and Undergraduate level in Object-Oriented Systems Development, C++, Java, Javascript, Database Management Systems and Data Warehouses, Advanced Databases and Big Data Management, Deep Learning and Text Analytics, Systems Analysis and Design, Electronic Commerce, and Introduction to MIS. My research interests are in the areas of Big Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Ontologies and Semantic Web, Intelligent Agent and Multi-Agent Systems, Component Based Software Development, Knowledge-Based Systems, and Data & Information Modeling. I have published over 250 peer-reviewed articles in Journals, Conferences, and Books. I have edited twenty books and serve on the Editorial Board of eight journals. Dr. Atreyi Kankahalli


Atreyi Kankanhalli is Provost's Chair Professor and Deputy Head (Research and Administration) in the Dept. of Information Systems and Analytics, School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She has also served as Assistant Dean (Research) and Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Studies) at the School of Computing. She is the Coordinator of the Service Systems Innovation Research Laboratory at NUS. She obtained her B. Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, M.S. from RPI, New York, and Ph.D. from NUS. She has had visiting stints at the London School of Economics, University of California Berkeley, ESSEC Business School, and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Prior to joining NUS, she has considerable experience in industrial R&D. She has consulted for several organizations including World Bank and Bosch SEA. Professor Kankanhalli conducts research in the areas of online communities and digital collaboration, digital transformation and innovation in service sectors (e.g., eGovernment, Healthcare), and IT governance and policy, with a range of organizations sponsored by government and industry grants. Dr.Venkatesh Kannan


Venkatesh Kannan works as the Technical Manager at the Irish Centre of High-End Computing (ICHEC), the national centre for high-performance computing (HPC) in Ireland, whose core mission is to deliver HPC-related capabilities and expertise to higher education institutions, enterprises and public sector organisations on behalf of the Irish State. At ICHEC, Venkatesh is responsible for defining and implementing the technological vision, strategy and roadmap of the Centre’s activities. This includes developing partnerships with domestic and international organisations in academia, industry and the public sector to undertake publicly and commercially funded computation-driven R&D and projects. Venkatesh also manages and coordinates the Centre’s technical activities with all members of staff and computational scientists across offices in Dublin and Galway. ICHEC focuses on HPC and its applications to a wide range of areas, including high-performance data analytics (HPDA), big data management, artificial intelligence, optimisation of computational workflows and applications on a variety of compute platforms including extreme-scale HPC clusters, edge computing devices and quantum computing platforms. These are applied to a wide range of application domains such as environmental sciences, remote sensing, digital healthcare and digital twins. Venkatesh also represents ICHEC in a number of Irish and European Union programmes, activities and projects. Prior to ICHEC, Venkatesh has experience in functional programming, program transformation, Petri nets, and system modelling for simulation and analysis. His passion for teaching takes him to academic and industrial training when time permits.

Abhishek Srivastava is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Discipline of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT Indore. The broad area of my research is Service-Oriented Systems most commonly realised through web-services. The thrust has been towards dynamic composition of web-services and service discovery through use of the Semantic Web. Another area of interest for me has been mobile crowd-sensing wherein we have been exploring the ‘human’ factor in the crowd-sensing loop. More recently, we have been working in the domain of the Internet of Things (IoT). The work being pursued here has been towards creating standardised interfaces for the IoT and what is aptly referred to as the ‘Web of Things'. Prior to joining IIT Indore, he was working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Software Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, USA, for one academic year (September 2011 - May 2012). Dr. Raj Gururajan has been working in the Australian Tertiary Sector since 1989. He has managed a number of portfolios including Program Director, Research Centre Director, Research Coordinator, Associate Dean (Research), Acting Head of School, Discipline Coordinator and Faculty Equity Coordinator roles among many roles. In terms of teaching, He has taught a variety of subjects in Mathematics, Engineering, Computing, Information Systems, Management and Research Methodologies. Currently he is teaching Information Systems and Cyber Security Courses at University of Southern Queensland (USQ). He researches in Health Informatics with specific attention paid to developing Intelligent and Decision Support Systems. He has published over 300 refereed papers. In addition to the research papers, he has won Australian National Competitive Grants (ARC Linkage) and other research grants. He is very strong in PhD supervision and had mentored 55 scholars to complete their doctoral degree.

Currently a team of students are pursuing their Doctoral course under his supervision in the areas like Cancer Prediction, Cyber Security Framework, Compliance Framework, Money Laundering recognition, Autism and other mental illness prediction systems, assessing the efficacy of a mental health system, Denial of Data Services, Developing a prediction model for aggressive behaviours and Hospital Avoidance Prediction models. Professor San Murugesan is Director of BRITE Professional Services; an Adjunct Professor in the School of Computing at Western Sydney University; and an Honorary Professor at Amity University. He is former Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Computer Society’s IT Professional magazine. He has vast experience in both academia and industry. His expertise and interests span a range of areas: artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, quantum computing, green computing, cloud computing, digital transformation, sustainability, and emerging trends in IT. He is editor or co-editor of 12 books and author of 17 book chapters and 17 reports on contemporary topics in IT. His books include Encyclopedia of Cloud Computing and Harnessing Green IT: Principles and Practices, both published by Wiley and IEEE Press in 2016 and 2012; both these books were translated into Chinese. He has guest-edited 40 journal special issues on a range of topics. He is a Distinguished Speaker of ACM and Distinguished Visitor of the IEEE Computer Society. Professor Wei Xiang

Wei Xiang (S’00–M’04–SM’10) Professor Wei Xiang is Cisco Research Chair of AI and IoT and Director of the Cisco-La Trobe Centre for AI and IoT at La Trobe University. Previously, he was Foundation Chair and Head of Discipline of IoT Engineering at James Cook University, Cairns, Australia. Due to his instrumental leadership in establishing Australia’s first accredited Internet of Things Engineering degree program, he was inducted into Pearcy Foundation’s Hall of Fame in October 2018. He is an elected Fellow of the IET in UK and Engineers Australia. He received the TNQ Innovation Award in 2016, and Pearcey Entrepreneurship Award in 2017, and Engineers Australia Cairns Engineer of the Year in 2017. He was a co-recipient of four Best Paper Awards at WiSATS’2019, WCSP’2015, IEEE WCNC’2011, and ICWMC’2009. He has been awarded several prestigious fellowship titles.
